Become an SLD Tutor
Interested in joining our tutoring team? We have opportunities available throughout west Michigan. Our tutors make a difference by utilizing an individualized one-to-one multisensory program based on the Orton-Gillingham approach. We require a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (as determined by the Director of Education Services). This is a flexible, part-time position. Tutors must be available a minimum of one (1) hour 2 times per week between the hours of 2p.m. - 5p.m. Additional hours may be available based on client/student need. Tutoring takes place at a mutually convenient location as agreed upon between the tutor and client, often the student's school. Mileage is reimbursed. Prospective tutors must successfully complete "Phonics Fundamentals" (PFI or PF32) and a 20 hour supervised internship. For class offerings and schedules please view the CLASSES section of this website. For Language Links, our volunteer tutoring program for at-risk 1st-3rd graders, we do not require a Bachelor's Degree. Starting pay for tutors is $13.00 per hour after successful completion of Phonics Fundamentals training and the internship. Training and materials may be received free of charge in exchange for 50 hours of tutoring (internship hours apply). Another option would be to pay a material fee of $220 with 20 hours of tutoring (internship). If you meet the criteria outlined above and you think this is a commitment you can make, please contact: -Heidi Turchan in our Kalamazoo office @ hturchan@sldcenter.org -Cindy Leonard in our Grand Rapids office @ cleonard@sldcenter.org. Use "Tutor Opportunity" as your message header, attach your resume, and tell us why you would be a great addition to our staff. We will contact with you within 2 business days to schedule an interview. Contact Us for more information. |
